Scott and I viewed the ACRL webcast on the Role of the Librarian in Combating Plagiarism yesterday. While overall the thing was not fantastic, there were a number of interesting points made, and several ideas and bits of information that I found useful. Also, she provided citations or URLS to a number of resources that are useful.
Here are links to the powerpoint slides and to a bibliography of resources she provided.
I will also try to type up notes soon and post those.

I created a new web page called “Database Documentation” and it hangs off the Instruction web page. I moved the links that were previously on the Instruction web page to this new page, figuring we’re probably going to add to this list in the near future.
I went to shelve the new edition of The Statesman’s Yearbook today and saw a sticker on the front that says we get free online access to this. I went to register and found there was no helpful way to enter more than one IP address so I just chose one of our cable modem addresses. This worked for me at the reference desk today but it’s probably not going to work for every user on campus. I then went to their help screen and filled out the form to ask if we could also have access by username/password, but when I submitted the request I got an error message. So online access to this title is iffy. The URL is http://www.statesmansyearbook.com. I’ll leave it up to Sharon as to whether she wants to put an 856 link to this in the bib record. (IMO, it’s probably not too important.)
The next section of the draft ILL manual is ready for review. I’ve put copies in your mailboxes, and there is a link to it online here
Last time we added several categories of Special Cases, but did not review the actual instructions under the ones already created. This time we should review each cases’ instructions and note what is unclear, what you disagree with, etc. Also, if you do think of other categories we’ve missed, bring those to the meeting. Remember these are just categories of materials at this point, not other issues like incomplete citations, we own the item etc.

I’m testing my ability to post to the blog. The first time I went in to add a link a week or so ago, I had no trouble, but this time because it remembered me and logged me in automatically I had trouble figuring out how to get to the page with the menus. I finally tried clicking on my name, where it said “You are logged in as Sharon ; Logout” and that worked.
I just remembered that it is under the Meta column on the right - The “site admin” link - that gets you to the menus.

There’s an article in the newest issue of Library Journal (Oct. 1, 2006) called Reflogs Now that gives you an idea of how one library used a blog to aide communication between librarians at Michigan State U.
Hi folks. Use this blog space to communicate with each other about reference and instruction work. You can also use this as a point of access to links on the left, which can be modified prettty much however we think they will work best for us.
